Ashes Tandem Trip Build

Finished ripping strips last night; they are ready for the planer. The @freud_tools glue line rip blade cut great. Next time I’ll rip to final width and skip the planer. . I was also happy with the @magtoolscom featherboard and @microjig splitter. It was my first time using both. . #cedarcanoe #cedarstripcanoe #cedarstrip #wood #woodworking #woodboat #woodencanoe #boatbuilding #canoecraft #ashesstillwaterboats

Planed to 3/4" so it is time to move the planer out and the table saw into position to rip. Then move the planer back in for final thicknessing to 1/4". 18 foot boards require a lot of space to process. I am grateful to have it! . . #barnshop #woodenboat #woodcanoe #woodworking #canoe #paddling #ashesstillwaterboats #cedarcanoe #cedarstripcanoe #grizzlytools

I'm attempting to breathe new life into this second hand @grizzlyindustrial planer I picked up last year before sending the strips through it. Sharp blades, everything leveled and indexed, rust removed, new base, and new fluids. . I'm learning it takes a lot of 'stuff' and frustration to get everything set just right. Not there yet. #planer #tools #cedarcanoe #cedarstripcanoe

Each of these strips is from a different board that is being ripped into strips for the boat. There will be lots of color variation on this @ashesstillwaterboats Tandem Trip. I'm thinking either from dark to light, or a rainbow pattern all the way down rotating one from each board and back. Hmmmm. . . #cedar #cedarcanoe #cedarstripcanoe #canoe #woodenboat #woodcanoe #woodworking #wood #paddle #boatbuilding #boats

casacel2Began ripping cedar today for the @ashesstillwaterboats canoe. Vertical grain cedar was the best wood I could find, so here I am ripping at 3/4". Next they'll be rotated 90° and tipped to 1/4" to end up with strips with the edge grain showing. Swipe left for another video and pics of the saw jig. . . #ashesstillwaterboats #cedar #cedarstripcanoe #cedarcanoe #woodenboat #woodcanoe #woodworking #wood #ahhhhsmellssogood #canoe #paddling #bwca #Michigan

Completed cutting and shaping my station and stem forms this evening. These 17 pieces of MDF will bring the lines from @ashesstillwaterboats to life. I used the @boschtoolsna jigsaw to rough cut and the @ridgidtools stationary belt sander to finish. I think I'll rip strips before mounting the forms; once that strongback is put in place and leveled it is not moving again until the boat is off the forms. #ashesstillwaterboats #cedarcanoe #cedarstripcanoe #woodenboat #woodcanoe #woodworking #canoe #paddling #tandemtrip #barnshop #woodshop

The plans have arrived from @ashesstillwaterboats! A modern 17 ft tandem with just enough displacement for tripping light without being oversized for day use. I hope I can live up to the beauty of the lines. . . #ashesstillwaterboats #cedar #cedarcanoe #cedarstripcanoe #woodenboat #woodcanoe
